Processing Fee Transparency on Invoices when selected to pass it on

Processing fees should be clearly written out and displayed on invoices and paid receipts, rather than being hidden behind the small “i” icon that requires clients to hover their mouse to view. Most clients don’t realize they need to do that.

When processing fees are passed on to clients, the breakdown should appear as a line item — whether they pay by credit card or bank transfer — to ensure full transparency. I recently had a client question the charge after paying her invoice, even though our Design Agreement clearly states that payments made by credit card or bank transfer are subject to processing fees. She said she only noticed the fee after submitting payment.

That confuses me — because I assumed the total, including any fees, would be visible before confirming payment. Does the platform not display the full total upfront?

Either way, I reviewed her paid invoice, and the processing fee is not shown anywhere on the receipt. That’s a problem. This lack of clarity can cause unnecessary client concerns.
