Creating Shadows

Sometimes rooms have light or shadows stretching across the floors and walls due to the time of the day the pic is taken the problem I have, I guess it’s my OCD but it would be nice to continue the lighting or shadow onto the rugs and furnishings giving it a more realistic appearance. Is it possible to have that effect.
