Search in Contacts and Category addition

Under Contacts can we add a category under the Vendor or Client tab? And can we search by this category?

Example.. under Vendor.. can I add a category like “TYPE” where I can put in what they do i.e. Cabinetry or Painter or General Contractor?

I see the Notes tab.. this may work.. but can we search by the Notes tab?
